Air Wolf (2023)
Simon Raven

Air Wolf is a new performance devised for this exhibition, to take place in-person during a live event and shown as part of the collection as a recording and costume.
The work alludes to the pressure of being ‘on air’ and speaks to the ever-increasing demands we face for access to our time through technology like smartphones. Simon’s performance – in which he appears as a werewolf donning a neon-lit blazer that glows red when ‘on air’ – involves adhoc interviews with guests. Carrying a (noticeably unplugged) microphone and posing questions about the pressures on our time, Simon will sadly not have the time to hang around and listen to the answers…
A feral interviewer with a humorously short attention span, Simon’s Air Wolf pokes fun both at the exhausting pace of the contemporary art scene and the impact of mass, networked communication on our attention spans.
